Of Navi Mumbai International Airport And Lucoled India Lights Up The Signage

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is a defining moment of India’s aviation story. It has marked one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects ever accomplished in the country. As an inseparable part of the project, Cosign India was involved in creation of the custom modular signage system that mirrors the airport’s architectural rhythm—precise, adaptive, and deeply human.

Cosign India was entrusted with creating the custom modular signage system at the newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). It all began with understanding not just the requirement, but the vision. Long days with its execution partner Mumbai-based Mini Signs & Displays (MSD), Cosign India explored the feasibility, sampling materials, defining details until the design met manufacturability. Then came scale, hundreds of signs, engineered to the highest standards, built to perform under the strictest timelines and demanding conditions.

Having worked on several major airports across India, Cosign India knew that it takes endurance, precision and quite pride of knowing that their works help travellers find their ways in a space that represents a nation’s progress. Developed in rhythm of NMIA’s architectural excellence, every sign of Cosign India flaunting at the new airport tells a story. It’s more of a story of collaboration, craft, and confidence in India’s design future.

Tejasa Purandare, Executive Director, Cosign India Pvt. Ltd., says, “We have received such a great response to what we have executed at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Cosign has been grateful for a successful collaboration with Mini Signs & Displays (MSD) in the landmark project.” With decades of experience, MSD has been one of the leading manufacturers of exceptional signage solutions for turnkey projects encompassing airports and infra across the country.

When asked about uniqueness of the NMIA project, Tejasa asserts, “There’s one detail from that project which we particularly wanted to highlight—that’s about the lighting behind the signage. For wayfinding signage, we used Lucoled’s Edge-lit solution EL31, a system known for its uniform brightness, energy efficiency, and long lifespan.”

Lucoled EL31 uses patented light reflection technology under Signify (formerly Philips) EnabLED Signage program and it is based on the face being illuminated by over 70 percent indirect, internally reflecting, light transmitted by narrow beam flare lenses. The modules are mounted on the sides of the box, directing a beam of light at the opposite side. The reflecting light evenly illuminates the face. In a high-traffic environment like an airport, that choice makes all the difference. Because lighting isn’t just about visibility, it’s about precision and visual consistencies that help people navigate intuitively.

“With our Lucoled Edge-lit system, every sign, from check-in counters to boarding gates at NMIA stays brilliantly legible around the clock. It’s these small yet crucial design details that turn functional spaces into effortless experiences,” informs Tejasa. She articulates that every project the team Cosign India has accomplished so far reminds them why they do and what they do to create clarity in motion.
