A spotlight on surging Saharanpur signage market
Saharanpur is a small city situated in a northernmost corner of Uttar Pradesh, close to the foothills of Shivalik range. The city boasts of serene natural environment, sparse population, rich flora and fauna. Also, the city has a signage market which is small but surging, meeting all demands and requirements of customers, which predominantly consist of local walk-in-customers and a few corporate companies. Jyaneswar Laishram roams around Saharanpur to find out ‘who is who’ in the city’s signage market.
An exclusive dealer of Pioneer
Media World is a sole supplier of the range of printing media and standees from Pioneer Polyleathers, India’s leading integrated manufacturer flex banner, PVC foam sheet, self-adhesive vinyl and others. Right from the day one of its inception, the company decided to exclusively deal only Pioneer media. The only product in the portfolio of Media World, which is not from Pioneer, is the inks that labeled MW, but are originally from AT Inks. “We have been in the market over the last 11 years. We are more or less known as Pioneer distributor in the region,” says Amit Batra of Media World. The company supplies Pioneer materials to 40 PSPs in the region.
Pioneer products in the product line of Media World consist of flex banners, PVC foam sheet, self-adhesive vinyl media and standees. Some unique properties of Pioneer products are their high-gloss, superior strength and excellent print quality. After all, the products are packed in hard tubes that save them from any form of damage. “Another advantage of Pioneer products is that most of them are approved by big corporate companies,” comments Amit, adding that it’s the value and quality that make brand Pioneer standout amid the crowd. Media World supplies Pioneer printing media to all cities and towns neighboring Saharanpur.
“Jamuna Nagar, Roorkee, Samli, Meerut… are some of the cities where dwell a chunk of our clients. The signage market of Saharanpur as well as that of the cities and towns in the periphery of Saharanpur is now surging with their production facilities updating from time to time,” observes Amit, adding that PSPs in the region start having awareness of ‘green’ printing technologies and media. In addition to being a media supplier, Media World has a separate printing setup where equipped a Caldron CJ eco-solvent printer. Amit mentions that very few PSPs in Saharanpur have eco-solvent printers in their production facilities. That’s why Media World’s printing division is an attempt to fill up this void in the city’s signage market.
A vendor of corporate clients
It has been just around five years since Sky Media started operating as a leading PSP in Saharanpur. The company is a sole vendor of some corporate companies which have so far campaigned for their products through outdoor ads in the city. “Very few corporate companies directly come to PSPs in Saharanpur. That’s why most of us (PSPs) in the city work for local clients. But it could be quite fortunate for us to have some corporate clients in our clientele,” says Mohammed Shafaat, Director, Sky Media.
Some of the corporate clients in the client list of Sky Media are Vivo, Oppo, Pepe Jeans, Venky’s, to name a few. “For Vivo, we have done a good number of projects, which include in-store branding and shop front displays,” mentions Shafaat, adding that only smart-phone companies widely campaign (outdoor) for their new products in tier –II and III cities like Saharanpur in the region. He further mentions that the presence of stores and showrooms of corporate companies in the city keeps steadily increasing over the last few years, signaling a sign of emergence of new business opportunity for the signage companies.
Sky Media has an in-house team of 5 professionals, which include a graphic designer and a machine operator. As per requirement, the company hires third party signage professionals for fabrication and installation jobs. When asked about the company’s geographical coverage, Shafaat replies ‘Meerut Zone’—a zone that covers cities like Meerut, Samli, Moradabad, etc. The company’s production facility is equipped with a Flora printer, which according to Shafaat is soon to be upgraded with new printers/machines.
