A glimpse of the growing
Vijayawada signage market


Shedding a spotlight on the Vijayawada signage market reveals that this exotic city in Andhra Pradesh is home to a host of signage companies producing diverse of applications at all quality levels as per the demands and requirements of local and corporate customers. Most of them are dwelled in the busy by-lanes of Gandhinagar and Arundalpet—two main printing hubs in the city where customers gather for any sort of print, ranging from business cards to big graphic displays. JYANESWAR LAISHRAM meets a handful of signage players in the city whose names are known widely and their works seen broadly around.

Sree Mahima Digitals
A quality print provider

Sree Mahima Digitals is one of the leading PSPs in Vijayawada, which boasts a production facility equipped with a line of high-end printers and finishing equipments. The printers equipped in the facility include two Mutoh ValueJet 1640 eco-solvent printers, alongside a range of finishing equipments such as cutting plotters, laminators and others. “We got the Mutoh printers from NEGI Sign Systems & Supplies Co. The printers are quite versatile, as we produce both indoor and outdoor applications using these systems,” says Ch Srenu from Sree Mahima Digitals. He adds that apart from outdoor applications, the ValueJet 1604 is also an excellent choice for durable photorealistic prints for indoor graphics.

Over the five years since its inception in the year 2013, Sree Mahima Digitals has roped in a number of big corporate customers, which include Big C, Oppo, Sangeetha Mobile and others. “In addition to big companies, we have a roaster full of local companies such as departmental stores, hotels, academic institutes, etc in Vijayawada which have been our regular customers for a long period of time. We have done quite a good number of projects for the local customers,” mentions Srenu, adding that their production facility is equipped with a Kingjet solvent printer, especially to meet the demands for economical applications from local customers.

Sree Mahima Digitals has a team of nine staffers among which four are assigned for machine operation. “But the size of our fabrication and installation team will change according to the size of the projects we handle. For example, when we take up bigger projects or projects outside Vijayawada, we tie up with a third party team to make things easier,” mentions Srenu. Apart from being a close partner of NEGI Sign Systems & Supplies Co and a long-time user of Mutoh ValueJet systems, Sree Mahima Digitals is also an exclusive distributor of PZO dye sublimation inks in Vijayawada.




Sidha Digital
An old player in the block

Subrahmanyam Ch, founder of Sidha Digital, is one of the oldest stalwarts in the signage market of Vijayawada. He incepted the firm 23 years ago, started with a cutting plotter and getting most of the works done manually. Recalling the early days, Subrahmanyam says, “There was a time when there was little or nothing about automated tools and machines using in signage production. We manually cut acrylic sheets, painted boards to produce signage of all kinds. Things get changed in a rapid pace in the signage market over the last two decades or so. It all happens following the advent of digital large-format printers.”

As on today Sidha Digital has a well-equipped production facility where two Allwin large-format printers with XAAR Proton printheads are running to produce quality graphic prints. When asked to mention some of their customers who have been closely partnered with them for years, Subrahmanyam states that the client list of Sidha Digital keeps changing from time to time. “There is no such customer that we can call ‘long term’. Most of them just come and go, except Wipro. We have associated with Wipro for a long time,” mentions Subrahmanyam.

Apart from the direct customers, Sidha Digital has partnered with a number of ad agencies which work for a number of corporate customers in and around Vijayawada. The company has a team of half-dozen professionals handing everything under a roof. “We don’t outsource anything as we handle everything right from printing up-to fabrication and final installation of any given project in-house,” says Subrahmanyam, adding that they are looking forward to adding more staffers to enhance their service and overall activities to a new level.




Mahima Digital
A corner for local customers

Like any other standard PSP, Mahima is one of the leading signage corners at Vijayawada having a production facility equipped with a Mutoh ValueJet 1604X eco-solvent and an Allwin (XAAR Proton printhead). The company is the brainchild of two business partners: P Suresh and D Kiran. “Our overall motto is to provide best-in-class print in faster speed. We always attempt to fulfill the demand and desire of our customers to the fullest,” says P Suresh. Customers in the clientele of Mahima Digital are predominantly local.

There are companies in the local market that have been regular customers of Mahima Digital for years. In this respect, Suresh says that demands for quality graphic prints have been increased among the local and walk-in customers. “The customers from different walks of life come to us for every bit of printing, which include displays for shop-fronts, event posters and in-shop display graphics,” he adds. He further says that local departmental shops nowadays aware of branding in high-end POS graphics as part of their brand promotion and customer attraction.

“We have a team of six sign making professionals engaging in all activities, which include machine operation, fabrication and installation jobs,” says Suresh, adding that their operation is confined in the city of Vijayawada, serving only the local customers. In addition, the clientele of the company includes a host of individuals who come down to Mahima Digital for personal print requirements, for occasions such as marriages, birthday parties, social functions. Unlike any other traditional PSPs, all that rush at the lobby of Mahima Digital is for quality.




Maa Arts & Ads
A complete solution provider


Maa Arts & Ads
Maa Arts & Ads is one of the popular signage companies in Vijayawada. They are popular for being a one-stop solution provider for brand promotion and printing solutions. The product portfolio of the company includes standies, demo tents, mementoes, neon boards, glow signs and LED sign boards. Maa Arts & Ads is brainchild of Hari A. The company has a firm objective of fulfilling every requirement of their clients in a complete way. Two branches of the company located in different parts of Vijayawada city are operated by a team of dozen sign making professionals.

The production facility of Maa Arts & Ads is equipped with an Allwin printer with XAAR Proton printhead. Some of the regular customers of the company include Dent-O-Dent, Oppo, Nitin Irmal, among others. In addition to signage and large-format graphics, Maa Arts & Ads engages in production of brochures, business cards, T-shirt printing, such items. “Our idea is to meet every requirement of our customers,” says Hari, adding that they don’t want to let go their customers to another shop for other print job.

Talking about the changing trends in the signage market, Hari says that they are quite sensitive about the new technologies keep surfacing around. He mentions about the increasing popularity of ‘green’ technologies. According to him, eco-friendly printing is the next level development in the industry, as it will bring not only the ‘safety’ in work environment, but also the ‘quality’ in overall graphic outputs.




Padmaja Graphics
A latex technology corner

One in the dozens of PSPs operating in the city of Vijayawada, Padmaja Graphics is a new entrant into the signage segment. This doesn’t mean that the company is new in the industry. The main architect of the company, Chandra Shakhar V, is a veteran in the Vijayawada printing market. He incepted Padmaja Graphics in 1989 as photocopy shop and gradually expanded it year after year incorporating new machines and latest technology to meet the growing printing needs in the field of digital printing.

“Our production facility is known in the whole South India for adopting a best line of high-end machines/printers,” says Chandra Shekhar, adding that they are also known in the region for providing cost-effective printing solutions with highest quality outputs and on-time delivery. The production facility of the company is equipped with Konica Minolta AccurioPRESS-C6100, Kip 860, Konica Minolta 1250 and XEROX 1000 i—all for commercial printing.

And the latest in the portfolio is HP Latex 335. “Adoption of the new HP Latex 335 is our new venture with which we are going to explore the signage market,” says Chandra Shekhar, adding that his son Krishna Chaitanya V will take care of the new production division equipped with HP latex printer. The latex printer is designed for both indoor and outdoor applications, capable to churn at the speed of 50 sq m/hr for outdoor and 13 sq m/hr for indoor quality in 1200x1200 dpi. Chandra Shekhar says that HP Latex 335 is their threshold to quality printing in the Vijayawada signage market.




Zeelani Digital Signs
An old-time outdoor expert

In the year 2008, Zeelani Digital Signs was incepted as an outdoor expert operating a wide network of outdoor rooftop hoardings across Vijayawada. “In addition to outdoor hoarding, we steadily expanded our task towards digital wide-format printing with the installation of a Mimaki JV-150. And the next printer in the follow-up was an Allwin with XAAR Proton printhead,” says Muslik Mohamed. Muslik mentions that they are gearing up for further expansion of the machine portfolio with newer technologies in near future, as per the trends coming up in the market.

Zeelani Digital Signs boasts a strong team of six sign making professionals engaging in all activities, which include machine operation, fabrication and final installations. When it comes to installation job, Muslik says they take up projects from their clients around Vijayawada and other cities and towns of Andhra Pradesh. The clientele of Zeelani Digital Signs includes a handful of political parties and cinema houses. “Our list of regular customer consists of a chain of Inox Cinemas in Vijayawada, for them we have completed a number of interior and exterior graphic projects,” mentions Muslik, adding that they still take up outdoor graphic projects for their customers.

Talking about the future plan of Zeelani Digital Signs, Muslik says they are looking for newer applications in the segments such as retail. He mentions that the retail sector is thriving and there is tremendous prospect of growth in it. Muslik’s observation is accurate as there is increasing thrive for in-store branding and graphic projects across the world. In India, a number of big retail brands are unvieling new brick-and-mortar stores across the country, expanding into tier III and IV cities.




Sai Ganesh
A choice for corporate players

Sai Ganesh is barely a five-year-old PSP in the Vijayawada signage market. The company over this short period of time has gained popularity, as they have roped in some big corporate clients. Some of the eminent customers in the clientele of Sai Ganesh include Coca-Cola, Apollo Tyres, B&B Residency, among others. S Subbarao from Sai Graphics says that the way they maintain quality and consistency in their print outputs and service is the key to their success.

“Customers’ satisfaction is the first thing that we keep in our mind when we take up any project. We find out the quality our customers are looking for and it’s our priority to never let our customers down at any cost,” says Subbarao, adding that the company’s seven-member team is divided into different units engaging in diverse activities, which include client handling, machine operation, fabrication and installation. He further says that they never broke the promise they made for ‘on-time’ delivery.

The production facility of Sai Ganesh is equipped with a Phaeton 3208 printer and a line of finishing equipments including a cutting plotter and a laminator. “We are now in pursuit of a newer machine/technology that can enhance our production facility to foray into other market segments,” says Subbarao, adding that the CNC routing is what they plan for adoption. He also adds that laser engraving is another option, which they are planning for adoption, under the objective that would make the production facility of Sai Ganesh a one-stop complete solution provider for their customers.




National Handicrafts & Mementoes
An expert in unique display systems

As the name suggests, National Handicraft & Mementoes is a corner where all varieties of mementoes, seals and trophies are made. In the product portfolio of the company is a range of table top display items which are custom made. A Kishore Kumar from National Handicrafts & Mementoes says that the products available in their shops are made of different materials such as wood, glass, metal and other rigid materials that can be cut and engraved using either a CNC router or a zig-zag cutting machine. He says that they engage in production of signage solutions like modular display systems as well.

National Handicrafts & Mementoes has a production facility where equipped a CNC router and a zig-zag cutting system. The company is just three years old in the market. “Our main customers are the leading colleges and schools in Vijayawada. We are closely tied up with a number of academic institutions and sports clubs and organisations, meeting their requirement when it comes to making trophies and mementoes time to time,” he says.

“CNC routing technology has been developed a lot over the last few years. We are quite new in the industry, still exploring for latest technologies. As of now we are maintaining everything with minimum use of some basic machines and equipments. In future, we are planning to adopt a line of advanced routing and engraving machines with which we will enhance our overall production volume and quality to a new standard,” mentions Kishore Kumar.




Prince Outdoor Advertisers
An old bastion of signage world

Establishment of Prince Outdoor Advertisers is dated back to the early 1980s at Guntur. Recalling the early years of the company, Ravi Talasila, key founder of Prince Outdoor Advertisers, says that he was merely a painter engaging in painting portraits, cinema posters, promotional banners and others for clients from diverse market segments. “With the change in market trends and increasing requirement of our clients, we gradually shifted activities from hand-painted jobs to screen printing and our location as well, from Guntur to Vijayawada,” mentions Ravi, adding that the new city offered them a newer prospect and growth in business.

For printing, Prince Outdoor Advertisers has tied-up with some PSPs, but the mainstay of their overall activity is still remained screen printing. For the finishing job, the production facility of Prince Outdoor Advertisers is equipped with a Roland CAAM Pro-1 cutting plotter. According to Ravi, the machine helps them in maintaining precision in cutting and finishing jobs. “After all, it (the cutting plotter) has replaced all intricacies we faced while making signage and display items manually,” says Ravi. He states that they are now feeling the market pulse to adopt a new printing technology which is future oriented and that can meet the increasing demands of innovative and high-end graphic prints among the corporate customers.

As of now Prince Outdoor Advertisers is working for only local clients, which predominantly include restaurants and cinema houses in Vijayawada. “In our client list there are a handful of ad agencies that are quite active and successful in Andhra Pradesh. We don’t work directly for any corporate client. All the corporate customers for whom we have done quite a number of key projects in and around Vijayawada have come to us through the ad agencies,” tells Ravi, adding that they are planning to set up a marketing team to directly work with big corporate clients in future.




Design World
A designer-cum-printer for all

Design World is provider of complete signage solution, starting from designing upto printing and installation. T Kirshna from Design World says that they give ‘designing’ first priority. “We are widely known as designing firm all over the region. You just name it and we design it—be it signage display, ID card, calendar, brochure and others,” he mentions. For the signage and display jobs, we get done our printing at Hanuman Graphics where equipped with an Allwin eco-solvent printer and a team of a half dozen signage professionals handles everything right from fabrication job and installations around Vijayawada.

Some of the all-time customers of Design World include JK Cement, Kalyan Jewelers, Sangeetha Mobile and others. Krishna says that their overall idea is to serve their customers in a complete way. “Most of the customers from the corporate world hardly require our design work. But there are a handful of our clients from the local market who always sought help from us to design and print their promotional displays. Restaurants, departmental stores and retail outlets in the city come to us for complete signage projects,” mentions Krishan.

When asked about the expansion plan, Krishna says nothing is set for an urgent move. But the plan is to expand their presence in other parts of the state. He mentions that they have gained popularity around the city of Vijayawada. So the next level plan of Design World is to explore the regions across Andhra Pradesh where they can introduce a new world of creative graphic art designs and quality signage printing.
