(Elphinstone West)

Anyone trying to grab a fine quality media for best quality prints these days wouldn’t need to run from pillar to pillar. When stopped by a Max outlet located almost in any part of India, it could be considered as the end of search for the best media. Today, Max Flex And Imaging Systems Pvt Ltd is one of the finest consumable hubs stocking a broadest range of media for digital as well as offset and analogue printing. “Along with the growth of MNCs and infrastructure across the country, digital printing gains a new position, so is the consumables,” says Hitesh Jobalia, managing director, Max Flex And Imaging Systems Pvt Ltd.

Max Flex is now going beyond its traditional billboard and banner media as the portfolio extensively includes floor graphic, vehicle graphic medias as well as others including digital wall papers for architectural segment and digital photo papers. The company’s presence in 18 branches across the country offers its customers an opportunity to find Max materials anytime and anywhere without any hassle or hurdle in transportation. Max has been serving its customers by knowing their requirements and grievances. “Apart from the wide-format segment we are also eyeing digital printing in equal measure as there are 350 types of media comprise our product line,” mentions Hitesh.

Talking about the company’s quality maintenance, Hitesh mentions that Max has signed original design manufacturer (ODM) agreement with its manufacturers under which the company has given all compositions specifying ingredients to be used in manufacturing the media. “We don’t use any substandard PVC as the ones we accept are from the US and Taiwan,” asserts Hitesh adding that a team of quality analysts from the company stays at the manufacturing plants to constantly keep checking the end products. For delivery services, Max deploys around 50 vehicles to deliver the products from the regional branches.

When the company first made its entry into the flex market in the year 1999 there were hardly 10-15 big customers in the country. However, the market has now gained growth up to 150 percent. “Max was one of the pioneers who unfolded the wave and importance of digital printing in the Indian market,” mentions Hitesh. He adds that the company came to know that the availability of good materials is the key factor to boost the industry. Within a period of three years since its inception the company grew its business manifold. Max is planning to open a demo centre to educate and show the optimum outputs of the products to customers.

“Today, we want to convey everybody that photo-quality signage prints are quite powerful to impress spectators in both indoor and outdoor applications,” remarks Hitesh. He adds that signage graphics for vehicle, floor, wallpaper, portable stands, expo stands, etc are strong and innovative mediums surging across the industry as these mediums are sometimes more effective than seconds of TV or video ads. Today, India has one of the most potential signage markets. In the US and European signage sectors, due to cold climatic condition and expensive human labour, digital billboard is not as common or increasing as in India. In this respect, Hitesh declares digital printing as future of signage and advertising in a big way!

Absolutely, there are endless number of different things that could come up from this segment as UV technology can mint anything as per the one’s creativity and capability.

Hammer
(Andheri West)
Maker of visual merchandising solutions

People hardly believe in the story of mammoth size Hammer was being popped up from a small home-based firm run under the leaderships of Sameer and Asish. Hammer as it is today was established in the year 2003, but its root dates back to the days when digital large-format printing was not even born yet. “We started making signage with the help of sun board mounting technique all around Mumbai at a point of time,” mentions Raghuraman S, manager, Hammer.

When Hammer came into being a prominent signage player, then happened a big turn in the company’s capability to deliver the finest quality digital wide-format prints, challenging defeating many in the city of Mumbai. Equipped with a brand new range of high-end machines like HP 5500, HP5000, five feet Mutoh Valuejet and Kodak 1200 i machine, Hammer has its prominence in the technology front. A group of select clients has been associated consistently with the company over the years. Extremely quality conscious corporate players like Levi’s, Provogue, Jumbo Kings and Sehnail perfume hover around Hammer for exclusive prints.

Hammer cannot go in ordinary way as it deals with international high-end brands. The company has always to walk beyond what normal or ordinary signage printers do. “We just stick around some select criteria to make our works unique. Our prints are from original inks only and for media, we use nothing other than Kodak,” says Raghuraman. Accurate quality maintenance is yet another characteristic of Hammer that guarantees value to its clients. “In the time of recent recession we faced big business turndown when the prices dipped down at a low level. But we anyhow maintained quality to keep our brand image at constant. That is our policy to control stability keep consistent quality in outputs,” exclaims Raghuraman.

There are many other companies having more machines and stronger workforce than Hammer. But the point of consideration for Hammer is beyond these factors. “We comply with ‘timeline’ and ‘quality’ in outputs, which is rather important. Companies looking for low price prints only, regardless of quality and consistency, remain out of our focus,” says Raghuraman adding that Lycra Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s come to Hammer to get quality and consistency. Yes, its high-end production facility and quality control are the reasons behind Hammer’s success. But the company is still in full swing mode to update to a new technology level!

The company has drawn on the years of experiences in different time periods to reach where it is today. Its name has become recognised even in today’s high-tech signage printing business in Mumbai. But the big leap in the company’s decades old journey into the signage industry took place in 1992 with its entry into flex printing business.

Now that Ambika Arts has a state-of-the-art production unit equipped with WitColor Nova 256 with Spectra printheads, HP 5500, five feet Roland eco-solvent printer, XL jet lamination machine, etc, the company is a perfect workshop for a number of clients from all over Mumbai and other neighbouring areas. “Jobs at our production facility are predominantly for exhibition and event signs. Banner Ad India
(Goregaon West)
Creator of classis creations in time

If not the oldest, Banner Ad India would be an older one, it’s doubtless. This signage major was established in 1972. Hand-painting was the only device the company first adopted in the business of producing banners and billboards. “Later on, using screen printing, we started to make cloth banners particularly during elections. We used to produce 10,000 banners per day for prominent leaders like Murli Devraj, Sunil Dutt, etc,” says Naresh Dedhia of Banner Ad India. The company’s activity took various transition phases in rhythms of the changes in technologies in the industry.

After putting in decades with cloth banners, Banner Ad India leaped into a new revolution in the year 1996 with the adoption of cutting plotter for vinyl signs. “We began to produce big cut outs for election campaigns,” asserts Naresh. He narrates that it was around 35 feet tall cut out banners for election campaigns of Congress (I) and cinema houses across Mumbai they had done extensively. “We accommodated 14 artists to prepare all those attractive banners produced by hand-made painting. Even we were closely tied up with Bombay Municipal Council (BMC) for some challenging mega projects,” remarks Naresh. Since then BMC has the trust upon the works and services of Banner Ad India.

“With the emergence of flex printing, we decided to install a flex printer. Nutek Multijet I was the first printer we adopted at our facility,” recalls Naresh. In the next five years, the old machines had been exchanged with two more Nutek Multijet printers. With the gradual increase in their workload, a new Mutoh Taucan was installed at the company’s facility, which gave them a good output. It was not the end of portfolio expansion, a brand new Mutoh Valuejet added at the production facility for provision of printing on sun boards, one-way visions, satin cloth etc for clients from shopping malls, retail shops, hospitals, etc.

Birla, Tata (Croma), LIC, Inorbit Hospital, Nanavati Hospital, MARU, etc are some of the leading companies for whom Banner Ad India has been working effectively. The company has a perfect team of well-trained 31 people to print, fabricate and install for the clients all across Mumbai and other cities like Bangalore, etc. “For sun boards and sun packs, we are planning to adopt flatbed printers soon,” mentions Naresh. He further explains that solvent printing has come to an end in the industry, so what Banner Ad India plans to get on is ‘green’ technology for more environment friendly and better quality print.

Reliance Print
(Fort)
Printer par excellent in on-demand domain

In addition to the couple of high-end printers was another elegant Soljet Pro II XJ-740 printer, lamination machines, mounting machines being installed to make the facility a perfect portfolio.

Well, expansion of the portfolio was a continuous process as another eco-solvent Epson 702 machine added in the company’s production facility to meet the increasing demands for newer applications in the market. Running till late evening, the production facility of the company keeps operational for hours every day for a list of potential clients like Mumbai Congress, MRCC, Bharat Petroleum, BPCL, Cipla and other local clients like retail shops across the city. Of course, on demand customers are usually on the emergence need.

Around 40 strong staff at the production facility as well as the front desk of Reliance Print formed the company’s stronghold in carrying out the business in any given time frame. “Our fabrication team are so dedicated that they could deliver the end solution/products to any spot desired,” says Pravin Khuthiya of Reliance Print. In the solvent domain, the company is looking ahead to adopt newer technology that can give the company faster outputs and cost effectiveness to customers. Also in the company’s vision is the adoption of flatbed printers to make a new entry into new domains in the market.
