Lanco Hills is counted among one of the largest single-phase development projects in the world. A city in its own right, this modern metropolis is all set to redefine Hyderabad’s skyline. The SEZ where AAA Business Solutions created and executed the Twin Pylons at its gate is a compact zone for IT, housing, shopping and entertainment centers.

Design process

AAA Business Solutions’ first meeting with Lanco Hills was to understand the latter’s requirement. After the initial brief, the design team of AAA Business Solutions, led by creative director GA Vikram, came with three (design) concepts. Further, after a couple of exhaustive client meetings, the final design was submitted for approval from the client. The design progressed from basic line drawings to 3D rendering of the final shape.

Structural design

With the basic line drawings and concept in place, the drawings were sent to a structural engineer to brief the team of AAA Business Solutions about the structural specifications. The structural drawings were then submitted to the client for obtaining clearance from their engineers by showing stability calculations, load calculations for STAAD, STAAD input file and resultant stresses for clearance. The next was a satisfactory level of the client who nodded to final ‘go-ahead’ for a start with the fabrication process.

Materials and methodologies

As the project was indeed a large and complicated one in nature, various components were required in the construction process of the huge Pylons. The main vertical columns were fabricated in 100x100x5 mm thick MS square sections, with supporting members for boxes and horizontal members fabricated in ISMC 100x50, internal supports for electrical fittings and 25x4 mm thick flats running through the central columns. The entire structure rested on base plates made of 20 mm thick MS plates of sizes 1.25x1.25 m. The foundation bolts were of 1.5 m long and 28 mm in diameter (eight bolts for each column). A service ladder was provided in each column for servicing electrical connections in future.

The outer cladding of the Pylons was done with 3 mm ACP with provision for incorporating branding elements. And Phillips T5 tubes were imbedded for internal lighting of the letters. Finally, both the pylons were transported to the site (gate) of SEZ using 16-wheel flatbed trailers.

Installation process

Headed by Joseph Pamu, managing director, AAA Business Solutions India, the project management team was set to execute the landmark Twin Pylons which weighed 2.5 tonnes each and stood 43 ft tall. Each of the Pylons was lifted with the help of heavy duty hydraulic cranes. Lifting a 43 ft tall Pylon was not an easy job and required involvement of highly-skilled crane operators and reliable equipments. Each Pylon took about one and a half hour to lift from the flatbed trailers and maneuvered them into position of the foundation bolts.

It has marked the highest Pylons installed as on date in the city of Hyderabad and perhaps all over south India. Today, it’s such a wonderful sight to see Twin Pylons of Lanco Hills Twin Pylons standing tall to give a majestic entry to the prestigious SEZ of Lanco Hills.
