Magnificent three from
Durst at FESPA Digital 2009

Among those who shined at the recent FESPA Digital 2009, Amsterdam was Durst, the company having a wealth of experience in developing and manufacturing large-format inkjet printers for outdoor displays, packaging and industrial applications. The eminence that the company received during the mega exhibition was for magnificently presenting its three flagship products—Rho 500R, Rho 800 HS and Rho 1000.

Rho 500R: Durst Rho 500R is a five metre roll-to-roll UV inkjet printer which combines an output of 400 sq m with un-compromised 600 dpi 6-colour print quality. Designed for printing a wide variety of large-format display items such as five-metre wide vinyl banners and mesh for facade cladding, Rho 500R can also print three 1.6 metre rolls together. The printer has highly sophisticated Quadro 30D Array, with double the density of nozzles, nozzle-regulated ink temperature.

Rho 800 HS: The world’s first continuous industrial UV flatbed printer now provides even faster print output: the new Rho 800 HS (High Speed) increases production by 80 percent. Other innovative developments, particularly the revolutionary Quadro Array technology along with outstanding workflow, have set a new standard in high-speed production. The printer has twice the number of inkjet nozzles, almost doubling its production output over the standard Rho 800 Presto.

Rho 1000: Rho 1000 is a continuous UV printer and unique in that it can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes. This is now Durst’s top model and guarantees an impressive maximum output of up to 600 boards per hour, without interruption, round the clock, while ensuring optimum quality. Two decisive factors behind this achievement are the further development of the revolutionary Quadro Array printhead technology together with the company’s efficient workflow configuration that can integrate into existing manufacturing processes (screen and offset printing).

Mimaki receives EDP Awards
for its digital printer and cutter

Manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and cutting machine, Mimaki has been honoured with EDP Awards for two of its groundbreaking products—UV LED curing UJV-160 printer and TPC-1000 apparel printer-cutter. Sakae Sagane, MD, Mimaki Europe said, “We feel very honoured that our forward-looking products have been selected not only once but twice by the EDP Association. This asserts us that Mimaki’s innovative products are at the forefront of technology development and help our customers to fulfil their daily chores to their best abilities.”

UJV-160 advantage

Bagging he award in the category of up to 1.6 m, UJV-160 features a new rigid media feeding mechanism that can accommodate media up to 12 kg. Developed jointly by Mimaki and 3M, the flexible ink for UV LED curing adds further benefits as it is expandable and does not crack when bent. This inkjet printer enables significant energy savings as UV LED can be switched ‘on’ and ‘off’ without any warm-up time resulting in energy consumption only when it is needed.

TPC-1000 features

The second award-winning product TPC-1000 can use two types of inks: solvent ink and dye sublimation inks: Sb52 and Sb51. Its use of solvent inks for printing on heat transfer substrates enables printing numerical designs, brand names on caps and casual wear. Dye sublimation printing with high-density sublimation inks facilitates printing on transfer paper for image transfer to polyester sportswear and swimsuits.

TPC-1000 is equipped with Mimaki’s patented Half Cut functionality as well its UISS (Uninterrupted Ink Supply System) and continuous crop mark detection technology.

Gandinnovations files for CCAA

Gandinnovations has filed for CCAA (The Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act) protection in the Ontario Supreme Court claiming that this is necessary to reorganise the company and return to profitability. According to Price Waterhouse in Canada, CCAA is a Federal Act that allows financially troubled corporations the opportunity to restructure their affairs. By allowing the company to restructure its financial affairs, through a formal Plan of Arrangement, the Act presents an opportunity for the company to avoid bankruptcy and allows creditors to receive some form of payment for amounts owing to them by the company.

Hary Gandy, president and CEO, Gandinnovations said, “We have attempted to manage the situation to maintain stability and considered all available alternatives but have determined that filing for CCAA protection would be the best way to maintain operations while bringing forth a successful plan for restructuring.”
