Is screen printing still relevant?

We often feel that screen printing technology has little or negligible relevance in the industry today, as inkjet has extensively captured everything over the last two decades. But this assumption is not cent percent true, because screen printing still has significant relevance in some segments, such as IF&E (industrial, functional and electronics) and textile printing, which are increasingly growing and changing rapidly. In fact, screen printing provides diverse opportunities in specialty printing, among which the biggest being the industrial applications.

Screen printing has the advantage over digital when it comes to meeting the demands of IF&E print solutions. As we all know that industrial printing needs significantly heavier coating to perform other functions, screen printing is an ideal technology to meet such requirement. When usual printing systems yield thickness ranging from 0.5–1.5 micron as standard in single pass, screen technology can deliver anywhere between 6–50 micron—this is the advantage!

In connection to this technical advancement of screen printing, here let me bring you the news of Messe Frankfurt India’s acquisition of Screen Print India. With the landmark acquisition, the organiser of Media Expo is now gearing up to reinforce itself in the printing industry by providing printing companies a wider scope and more opportunities to explore the other related segments.

In addition to the aforesaid advantages and opportunities in the IF&E segments, screen printing has gained a new ground in the textile/garment sector too, which is considerably a rapidly growing market in India and the world over. This is why screen printing can still be termed as a relevant technology in today’s printing market. Doubtless to say, Screen Print India in its every edition had brought bigger show floor, broader product showcase and greater significance. But the expo, after its acquisition by Messe Frankfurt India, has raised a new benchmark for enhancing awareness, level of networking, knowledge dissemination and industry bonding.

As long as Messe Frankfurt India is taking Screen Print India to a new height, the country’s leading screen printing technology expo is accelerating its strategy towards a new direction, with deeper focus on the textile arena. Now, it’s good to hear that Screen Print India will be very must a part of Messe Frankfurt’s Texpertise Network, which is a much-admired networking platform of the some of the world’s leading textile trade fairs where visitors get big opportunities to grab innovations and latest trends that drive the global textile industry.

In many cases, screen printing technology is simply the best option for certain applications, in a quite cost-effectively way. With this advantage, the technology is flourishing. So that what I like to conclude here is that screen printing technology is not only alive, but also growing nicely!
