Gradually growing
signage market of Gorakhpur


Located along the banks of Rapti River in the north-eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur is a city known for its historical sites and religious shrines that attract tourists from all over the world. The city also boasts of a growing signage market inhabited by a host of signage companies gearing up to expand their footprints and upgrade their production facilities with the latest machines and technologies. JYANESWAR LAISHRAM from SIGN & GRAPHICS walks downs the by-lanes around the city to find out the works and endeavors of the signage companies, among which some are decades old and some just a few months or years old.

Drishti Printers
A good beginning

Drishti Printers has been into offset printing for more than ten years. The production facility of the company is equipped with a four-colour Adast Dominant 745 machine and two Autoprint mini offset machines. “While into commercial printing what we observed among our customers was their demand for large-format prints for outdoor advertising projects. Then we decided to expand our activities, adding new task in large-format printing. Just two months back we opened our large-format printing division where equipped a Lotus printer with KM 512i printhead,” says Shailendra Pratap Singh, Business Executive, Drishti Printers.

“We have quite a number of customers in the banking sector. SBI is one of them. For the bank we regularly print leaflets, brochures and flyers. When we recently noticed their requirement for the promotional signage print, we grabbed the project and inaugurated our wide-format printing facility,” mentions Shailendra, adding that SBI is the first client in their wide-format printing division. Other customers in the list include a handful of schools and hospitals, such as Neelabh Hospital & Trauma Centre and SB Academy.

Shailendra observes that the signage market of Gorakhpur is now growing as many offset printing companies are expanding their activities towards large-format printing. “Quite a number of offset printers in the city have adopted large-format printers, taking up signage projects from different industrial clusters,” he says, adding, “There is a good scope for expansion in the market.” When asked about the next machine they are planning to equip in their wide-format printing division, Shailendra says a new eco-solvent printer will be installed soon in the setup. A team of six skilled professionals takes care of the overall activities in the facility.




Modern Advertising & Marketing
New avatar of an old player


Ajay Srivastava
The origin of Modern Advertising & Marketing is rooted deeply around 50 years ago in the signage market of Gorakhpur. Recollecting the old lineage of the company, Ajay Srivastava says his grandfather Vishwanath Srivastava was a painter who painted posters, store-front displays and promotional signs. “Trends and technologies keep changing from one generation to another, but we still maintain the legacy of our grandfather. Modern Advertising & Marketing is the offshoot of the business he started,” says Ajay.

As on today, the production facility of Modern Advertising & Marketing is equipped with Caldron CJ and Monotech PixelJet printers. A number of leading corporate companies, such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj, Coca-Cola, Big Bazaar, Tata Tiscon and others, are in the client list of the company. “We handle all sorts of signage projects for our clients around Gorakhpur and 20 other towns across UP,” mentions Ajay, adding that most of their key clients are from big cities like Lucknow and Kanpur. In addition to big corporate clients, a swarm of local and walk-in customers is a common sight at Modern Advertising & Marketing.

About the company’s future expansion plan, Ajay mentions that they are now fully geared up to expand their production facility to another level. “By mid-2019 we will upgrade our machine line with the addition of an eco-solvent printer. “After the adoption of the eco-solvent printer, we will chalk out plan to invest in a laser engraver by the year-end,” he says, adding that they want to be a complete solution provider, catering every bit of signage under their roof.




Amit Printer
Strong tie-up with agencies

With a decade old background in offset printing business, Amit Printer began printing signage graphics with the installation of a Monotech Pixeljet Starfire 3302 solvent printer three years back. Other machines at the company’s production setup include a Xerox C-70 digital production Press. “Our overall idea of running both digital and large-format printing side by side is that we could provide our customers complete printing solutions, whether it’s related to commercial or signage graphic,” explains Amit Bhattacharya of Amit Printer. The company’s list of customers includes some agencies that work as middle men to bring signage projects of corporate firms as well as local companies and some political parties. In this respect, Amit mentions that they closely work with the agencies since they started wide-format printing business.

Amit Printer has a team of four staff, which includes a graphic designer (Sajjad Hussain). “Having an in-house graphic designer is a must. Most of the time, projects of local customers come to us as ideas only. We have to convert the ideas into designs to their satisfactory level,” comments Amit, adding that they are planning to increase the size of the team with the addition of some more designers and machine operators, as the facility will have an eco-solvent printer soon.

Amit says that the signage printing market of Gorakhpur has been gaining momentum of growth over the last two years. He further mentions that demands for quality prints keep increasing. “We need to upgrade ourselves to meet the increasing demands for quality prints among customers. That’s why our next level expansion plan is to adopt an eco-solvent printer, which is not only capable to provide high-quality graphic prints, but also environment friendly and health hazard free for operators,” comments Amit.




Pioneer Advertisers
All-in-One printing solution

Everything about signage and commercial printing comes under the roof of Pioneer Advertisers. When it comes to signage, the company involves in both indoor and outdoor applications. The company currently handles 30 outdoor sites, among which 13 are rooftops and 17 on ground. And their production facility is equipped with ColorJet 2132 and EcoJet solvent printers. They boast of a team of 16 sign making professionals that include two graphic designers. The team involves in all tasks such as fabrication and installation.

Pioneer Advertisers has clients in different market segments. Jewellery sector is one such area where the company has roped in a handful of big brand customers, namely, Tanishq, Geetanjali, PC Jeweller and Astra. Other than these popular jewellery companies, Pioneer Advertisers has also tied-up with a handful of big corporate players like Hero, Honda, Sony, Samsung and Bajaj for their signage projects in both indoor and outdoor arenas, which consist of applications such as in-shop graphics, uni-poles, hoardings and others.

“Ever since our inception in the year 2003, we have been involved in every aspect of printing, whether it’s large-format signage graphic or commercial print,” says Ajay Sharma of Pioneer Advertisers. Commercial printing division of the company is called Pioneer Printers which is equipped with a couple of Autoprint offset presses. With plans to invest in new machines, Ajay mentions that they are going to upgrade both the signage and offset machine portfolios. He says that the signage division will soon have a laser engraving machine, probably in February 2019, and there will be a four-colour press in the offset division in near future.




Aditi Digital Media
Indoor-outdoor expert

Incepted in the year 2005 as an outdoor media company, Aditi Digital Media opened its production facility in 2007 with the adoption of a WitColor. The facility keeps upgrading from time to time to meet the increasing demands of their customers for newer applications and better print quality from their customers. In 2010 a ColorJet Neptune printer was installed in the facility and the same model of printer added in the year 2016. As on today, two ColorJet printers are running in the company’s state-of-the-art production facility. “It’s very essential to follow the changing market trend and upgrade production facilities with new machines. That’s why we keep adding new printers to our portfolio, replacing the obsolete ones,” says Manoj Kumar Rai of Aditi Digital Media.

“In the signage fraternity of Gorakhpur we are known as ‘indoor-outdoor expert’ for the reason that we more or less engage in both activities. Apart from being a PSP we operate more than 20 rooftop advertising sites around Gorakhpur,” mentions Manoj, adding that their outdoor applications include uni-poles placed in different parts of the city. Some of the key customers in the client list of Aditi Digital Media include LIC, Indian Oil, Emami Cement and others.

Considered to be one of the landmark outdoor signage projects they have ever executed, Manoj mentions that they got tender for signage at the Gorakhpur railway station in 2012. The project involved printing all sorts of signs including overhead directional signs, safety signs, recycling and trash signs, etc for the station. In-store graphic and branding is the new task that Manoj wants to bring into their activities in a bigger way. For that he is looking for a new and suitable machine to be added in their existing portfolio.




Suraj Publicity & Advertising Agency
Provider of every signage need

Suraj Publicity & Advertising Agency is one of the popular signage companies in Gorakhpur with their activities involve in providing every bit of signage need. The company’s production facility is equipped with a Lotus printer (KM 512i printhead). Apart from printing, the facility is designed as a workshop for cut-letter signs, glow sign boards and others. In addition, Suraj Publicity & Advertising Agency is also engaging in stage fabrication for events held in and around Gorakhpur.

With its skillful and dedicated team of six fabricators and installers, works of Suraj Publicity & Advertising Agency are popularly seen all over Gorakhpur and its neighboring regions. “We cover the areas fallen within the perimeter of 250 km from the city of Gorakhpur. Our team can handle any given project right from printing until final installation,” mentions Saurabh Gupta of Suraj Publicity & Advertising Agency. Some of the company’s major clients include: TVS Motor, Bajaj, Baidyanath, Kajaria Tile and others.

Saurabh says they wisely choose LED modules and power supplies when it comes to making long-lasted glow sign boards. “We always use SAMSUNG and MSTronics products for any LED-based glow sign. So far, our customers are fully satisfied with the products and services we offer,” he adds. With their aim to enhance print quality and penetrate into newer domains, Suraj Publicity & Advertising Agency is planning to install an entry-level UV printer in their facility. To meet the increasing demands for high-quality prints among corporate players, particularly for indoor applications, Saurabh feels that the adoption of an advanced/high-end system is a must for PSPs nowadays.




Vani
A complete solution provider

Responding to demands for signage graphics, Vani, which is a house of complete digital printing and CtP solution, adopted a wide-format printer (D-JIE 3202) with SPECTRA Polaris printhead. Other than the wide-format printer, the company’s production facility is equipped with a Xerox 700 digital press, BasysPrint CtP platesetter and others. “We provide our customers everything of printing under one roof. For example, if you come for signage print and also want to get printed your business cards and company leaflets or brochures, it’s totally possible at our facility,” says Om Prakash Singh.

Vani has a strong team of 10 well-trained printing professionals, among which two are assigned for handling the large-format printing. “It’s not just printing we do; fabrication and installation of signage is very much a part of service we provide. We have separate staff for the fabrication and installation job,” mentions Om Prakash, adding that the company’s client list consists of a mix of local and corporate customers. Customers gathering at the lobby of Vani include many who come from far corners of Gorakhpur and its neighbouring towns.

SBI is one of the key customers of Vani for whom they have done a number of landmark promotional signage projects in and around Gorakhpur. “Other than big corporate clients, our client list contains a handful of local companies, such as schools, shops, social organisations and others. For instance, Rajshila is a local departmental store, which is our long time customer. We provide everything for them—POP and POS displays, leaflets, cards and others,” mentions Om Prakash. SuperSign is one of the chosen media for Vani.




Om Sai
Upgrading to another level

Om Sai is yet another company which is designed to be a complete printing house with production facilities equipped with digital presses and large-format printers. The company’s large-format production facility is equipped with two Monotech Pixeljet Starfire 3302 printers. On other side, the company boasts a division fully equipped with CtP platesetter and a line of digital presses. Graphic designing is very much a part of creative activities of Om Sai. “Out of our team of ten staff, we assign four in large-format printing,” says Shivam Gupta of Om Sai.

The clientele of Om Sai is a mix range of both corporate companies and walk-in customers. “Most of the corporate companies in our client list are brought to us by agencies. We haven’t contacted any of them directly. Those walk-in customers are only those whom we deal directly,” says Shivam. He adds that their customers are come from very far flung areas of Gorakhpur and its neighboring areas such as Basti, Deoria and Kasia. Sometimes Om Sai works for customers based in the far off towns like Faridabad.

When asked about the company’s next step plan, Shivam says they are planning for some advanced machines and technologies. “First of all, we will go for an eco-solvent printer. After that what we are planning is to adopt others like laser engraving machine and CNC router that will help us push our business into new areas with new applications,” says Shivam, signifying the fact that they need to upgrade their production facilities for pacing along the growing signage market of Gorakhpur.




India Advertiser
Looking at advanced technologies

India Advertiser is one of the popular signage companies in Gorakhpur with a large client base of more than hundred local customers, which predominantly include hotels and restaurants in and round the city. Establishment of the company is dated back to 10 years when most of its activities involved in job works. Five years back India Advertiser unveiled its own production setup equipped with a versatile Goldtech printer with XAAR Proton printhead. After all, the company’s activities involve in LED signs and cut-letters as well.

The client list of India Advertiser includes some of the popular hotels and restaurants in Gorakhpur. The list consists of hotels like Carry Night and Shewagraha in the city. Gaurav Jaiswal of India Advertiser says that they have been working for more than a dozen of hotels in the city. In addition, stage fabrication is also one of the main activities of India Advertiser. “We keep doing stage fabrication for local events, whether it could be a religious function or a festive celebration or anything,” says Gaurav.

“We produce backlit LED signs and cut-letters for hotels and restaurants,” he mentions, adding, “This domain is quite vibrant and we are now preparing to present ourselves more capable than ever with the opening of a separate division with a laser engraving machine and a CNC router.” Moreover, the company’s printing setup has also been set to upgrade with another (eco-solvent) printer soon. In this respect, Gaurav says that they have a future plan to adopt two technologies—first is eco-solvent, which is going to happen soon, and other is UV printer.




Hind Creative
Cut-letter sign expert

Though they are barely five years old in the market, Hind Creative is widely popular as an exclusive cut-letter sign maker in Gorakhpur. The company’s unique products and services have impressed local clients and they are sole supplier of cut-letter signs to some select agencies. According to Musheer Khan, who is at the helm of Hind Creative, they are planning to tie-up with some corporate companies for bigger projects in new domains. He says they are quite popular around Gorakhpur, serving some good old local customers, but their plan is to go beyond the city in future.

Hind Creative has been closely tied up with the advertising agencies like Color Media Work, Band Enterprises, Style Media and others, supplying them cut-letter signs for diverse projects they handle in different industrial clusters. Musheer says their customers believe in quality products they offer and happy with services they provide. “We maintain efficiency in quality of our products and consistency in delivery schedule. This is how we impress our customers,” he asserts.

“We create letter signage delivering something different from the usual flat board signs. Our acrylic cut-letters provide a vibrant addition to both interior and exterior walls,” explains Musheer. The production facility of Hind Creative is equipped with a Unitech laser engraving machine, which is compatible with non-metallic materials ranging from acrylic, cloth, vinyl up-to granite. Musheer says they are planning to invest in a new laser cutting machine which can cut metal.




Bharat Art
Name and number plate maker

Bharat Art is popular for being an exclusive corner where all varieties of name plates and directional signs are made in Gorakhpur. The company operates from its two branches—one as a shop cum product gallery while the other as its production facility where installed a Yueming CMA1309 laser cutting machine. The company’s activities largely involve in making signage and display systems using retro-reflective materials such as vehicle number plates, stickers and display boards. “Crowd that gathered at our shop predominantly consists of bike and car owners who come for name plates and fancy stickers,” mentions Munir Khan.

Munir mentions that the market of two-wheeler name plates, stickers and accessories is vibrant for the fact that young generation is quite demanding for new designs and styles. “Normal customers who come to our shop for new number plates for their new vehicles or replacement of old plates are just a few. Most of our customers are of youngsters who have the zeal of making their bike graphics fancy, attractive and stand out amidst the crowd,” he comments.

Apart from the vehicle name plates and stickers, Bharat Art engages in production of cut-letter signs for many local clients in Gorakhpur. In this respect, Munir says they are planning to add one more laser cutting machine and increase manpower to enter some new market sectors where they can catch big corporate customers. He adds that there is a growing prospect of cut-letter signs in Gorakhpur where multi-national retail brands or companies keep coming and open their outlets and branches around the city.
