At Messe Munich in Germany, on May 14-17, FESPA Global Print Expo 2019 unveiled an array of opportunities for business development in specialty print with an extensive line-up of product launches and enhancements. A total of 700 exhibitors filled six of Messe München’s exhibition halls, displaying a host of new equipment and colourful applications.

New Launches
Efi and Mimaki chose FESPA Global Print Expo 2019 as the platform to debut their new flatbed printers—EfiPro 30f and Mimaki JFX200-2513 EX respectively, while EPSON expanded its SureColor SC-S range with the addition of two new industrial output models—SC-S60600L and SC80600L.These 64-inch printers feature EPSON Precision Core TFP printheads and will be supplied with Epson Edge RIP software and LFP Accounting Tool (which will provide accurate job costing data).
Roll-to-roll printing was another key area of innovation, with Canon unveiled its latest Océ Colorado 1650, while swissQprint launched Karibu, its first roll-to-roll printer. Océ Colorado 1650 introduced a new flexible ink and Océ FLXfinish, meeting the needs of customers who wish to increase media versatility to fuel business growth. The new 64-inch production printer is built on the breakthrough productivity, output quality and media versatility of the Océ Colorado 1640.
Durst on other side introduced its own modular software solutions – DurstWorkflow, Durst Analytics and Durst Smart Shop – to provide customers with an automated production unit ‘from pixel to output’. The offering is completed by consulting, training and integration services of Durst Professional Services. The company also unpacked two new printing systems—P5 350 and P5 210 built based on P5 technology platform.
Elsewhere, textile print saw some significant hardware announcements, such as the debut of HP’s flagship 3.2m-wide S1000 Stitch dye-sublimation printer. In addition, the company also introduced new adhesive vinyl and printable laminates, developed for optimal performance and longevity (over 10 years outdoor durability when laminated with HP polymeric laminates). HP at the expo offered a complete printing solution of ink, media and printer—engineered to work together seamlessly, reducing set-up time and increasing productivity.
Launched from PrintFactory was its Linux compatible workflow software. In fact, it is the first-of-its-kind software offering a fully-supported workflow solution across the three main operating systems— Windows, MacOS and Linux. The launch of PrintFactory on Linux offers wide-format printers maximum flexibility in the way they work. For example, if prepress operators are using MacOS or Windows workstations, PrintFactory now enables jobs to be simultaneously processed on a Linux server.

Mactac rolled out new ColourWrap Series offering 50 different colours in cast quality, including gloss, gloss metallic, matt and matt metallic finishes. The new range offers access to materials that are not only affordable but also easily to apply and offer very good conformability properties for 3D challenging projects. These materials are meeting a crucial need, providing installers with the performance needed when faced with demanding curves and deep recesses.
SENFA introduced alternative recycled printable fabrics, which are eco-friendly and sustainable. These new printable ALTIMIS media are manufactured using 100 percent recycled polyester textile materials. ALTIMIS is an easy-to-install, printable textile product, which offers a greener alternative to PVC substrates and meets the environmental demands of international brands and advertisers.
Crowd pullers
Kornit Digital displayed for the first time the Kornit Atlas, a crowd-pulling heavy-duty system created for super-industrial garment decoration businesses, and Kornit Avalanche Poly Pro, featuring the company’s NeoPoly Technology, the industry’s first digital, industrial process for high-quality printing on polyester.
FUJIFILM showcased its upgraded Acuity Ultra, which has set new standards for speed and quality in high-end indoor graphics and outdoor signage markets. This high productivity, UV super-wide format printer has until now been available either with six channels configured as CMYK plus light inks, or eight channels as CMYK plus light inks and two white channels.

The winners of this year’s FESPA Awards were announced at the annual FESPA Gala Dinner, which took place at Löwenbräukeller in Munich, Germany during the FESPA Global Print Expo 2019. Four Indian companies were among the gold winners under The Application Category. They are: Spectrum Scan Pvt Ltd (Display and Packaging on Plastic), Perfect Packaging India (Display and Packaging on Paper & Board), Classic Stripes Pvt Ltd (Decals and Printed Labels) and Classic Stripes Pvt Ltd (Glass, Ceramic, Metals and Wood Products). The others in the category included, Atelier fuer Siebdruck – Lorenz Boegli, Switzerland (Serigraphies and Fine Art), Atelier fuer Siebdruck – Lorenz Boegli, Switzerland (Creative Special Effects – Paper, Board and Plastics), Teximport Group, Russia (Special Effects on T-shirts, Garments and Other Textiles), P&P Promotion SRL, Italy (Direct Printing on Three Dimensional Products), Flip Ziedses Des Plantes design studio, Netherlands (Non-Printed Signage), among others.

Triain Moldovan from Austria won this year’s FESPA World Wrap Masters Series announced during the FESPA Global Print Expo 2019. Sponsored by Hexis, Mimaki, the series presented the conclusion of two competitions, Wrap Masters Europe and World Wrap Masters Series Final. Triain Moldovan, runner-up of Wrap Masters Europe was crowned World Wrap Masters Champion. Second and third places went to Norman Brübachj from Germany and Sweden’s Jonas Sjöström respectively.
Commenting on what winning meant to him, Trians said, I’m speechless, I don’t know what to say, I wasn’t expecting it. It was a tough and very close competition. To be able to compete against all of these wrappers is awesome. In this competition you have to deliver quality work under stress and it turns out today was a good day for me.” The next World Wrap Masters Series will take place at FESPA Mexico 2019 from August 22-24 at Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City.
