The major highlights

Sabine announced that drupa 2020, with their tagline ‘embrace the future,’ will focus on future technological changes as well as ecological concerns in the industry. “Sustainability will be one of the key topics at drupa 2020,” she pointed out. Looking at new core areas, she mentioned that drupa 2020 will also focus on industrial printing, packaging, additive manufacturing, inkjet and textile. “Inkjet technology is called enabler and textile printing is not only for garments, these will grow tremendously in other areas in future,” she mentioned, adding that artificial intelligence (AI) will also be a focus area.

She highlighted various drupa 2020 hotspots, such as drupa cube (in Hall 6) for inspiring conferences on digital transformation and valuable contents; (dna) drupa next age (in Hall 7) for innovative technologies and applications; and others including touchpoint packaging, touchpoint 3D fab + print and touchpoint textile for extensive enhancement in the existing concepts and technologies.

She mentioned that some exhibitors will have bigger show floor at drupa 2020, for example Landa, and HP as before will be the biggest, occupying the entire Hall 17.

India Day

Appreciating the presence of Indian companies in drupa and increasing number of visitors from the country to the show, Sabine mentioned that India is an important country for them, and like other editions, there will be India Day at drupa 2020. “There were around 20,000 visitors from India at drupa 2016. We expect the same or more than that in drupa 2020 too,” she said.

drupa’s significance to India

Dr Markus said drupa is a significant platform for countries like India which export 50 percent of packaging printing to the overseas markets. “Print 4.0—the digitization we talked during drupa 2016 will be one of the key areas at drupa 2020,” he mentioned.

Giving a highlight of the ever growing printing and packaging industries of India, Divyajyoti Kalita said that drupa is always a privilege for the Indian companies to explore the latest trends, products and technologies. “There will be an increase of visitors from India than the previous 2016 edition.” While, Prof Kamal Chopra urged everyone to visit drupa 2020 to achieve something that others don’t do. “A few editions back, there were no Indian company at drupa, but today we have 51 and this is a big achievement for us and we expect 30,000 visitors from India to drupa 2020,” he said, adding that drupa is the best knowledge centre where everyone can gain knowledge and grab latest technologies in the industry.

Facilities for visitors

“Unlike drupa 2016, we have a lot of new developments on technological front for the convenience of visitors to drupa 2020. We have launched an app for wayfinding and matchmaking, which will help visitors easily navigate the show floor when they want to find particular exhibitors of their choice,” announced Sabine. drupa 2020 – world’s number one trade fair for printing technologies—will be held from June 16-26, 2020 at Düsseldorf, Germany.
