2018 OBIE Award winners prove OOH
displays not limited to static billboards


OBIE Awards is an annual award programme organised by the OAAA (Outdoor Advertising Association of America) recognising creativity in OOH. This year the awards have been conferred on 60 winners across 18 categories that include Retail, Entertainment, Integrated Multimedia, Contextual and others. The awardwinning OOH works reflect stunning and inventive campaigns.


The name OBIE is derived from the ancient Egyptian obelisk meaning ‘a tall stone structure used to publicise laws and treaties’. Many historians consider the obelisk that was existed thousands of years ago as the first true form of advertising. Each year, OAAA organises OBIE Awards judged by a panel of seven judges who are top executives at advertising agencies and OOH media companies. The winners are honoured with Gold OBIE, Silver OBIE and OBIE Silver accolades.

This year, OBIE Awards reflect the growing and evolving OOH sector, as the winners prove that OOH displays nowadays don’t have to be limited to static billboards because it signifies the intersection of digital print and digital world. OOH must be beautiful, contain fun and tell something consumers need to know—these are what this year’s awardees convey with their OOH campaigns produced in both static and digital formats.
