Highlight of Event SGIA ’06 : best show ever!
SGIA ’06 was a great success, this year. It is the place for maximizing
the technologies and opportunities, as specialty graphics community is
moving ahead at a fast pace. Being at the center of the specialty
imaging marketplace, SGIA ’06 gave attendees the opportunity to
immerse themselves in the latest industry trends, and to search out
and find new, better ways to create innovative products for their
customers. Here’s a detail about the same.
This year’s edition of SGIA ’06
witnessed the participation
of some of the biggest
names in the industry. Printers are
using multiple technologies to
achieve client goals, and the expo
captured this trend nicely. The
wrap display was buzzing with
activities all through the shows
with its daily demonstrations from
exhibitors like 3M Graphics
Market Center, Avery Dennison
Graphics Division, Oracal USA,
MACtac/Morgan Adhesives Co
and Arlon Inc, who consistently
drew crowds and sparked
entrepreneurial imaginations.
The 58th SGIA ’06, annual
convention and exposition also
witnessed the battle for
excellence, where more than
hundred companies were in
competition to win the Golden
Image Awards. This year Tarun
Print Tech from Mumbai won 15
awards in different categories.
Moving forward was a theme that
reverberated throughout SGIA
’06; from the specialty areas such
as the vehicle wrap area and
digital workflow pavilion to the
keynote address by Joe Calloway.
The hundreds of new products
introduced at the expo included
inks, digital flatbeds, roll-to-roll
and hybrid printers, media,
sublimation products and directto-
garment approaches. Building
up customers’ know-how was a
recurring trend at the digital
workflow pavilion and vehicle
wrap area.
"Most of the attendees at the digital
workflow pavilion have experience
in digital imaging and are interested
in the newest technologies and
media products being used," said
Sid Lambert, with Gold Sponsor
Roland DGA Corp, who was an
educator at the pavilion.
Major manufacturers from the
document printing and
photographic sectors are taking a
more active role in specialty
graphics, bringing added expertise
and broad viewpoints. In the past,
most technology users joining the
SGIA community could be
described as imagers in search
markets. Today, more of the
technology users joining SGIA are
marketers in search of imaging
capability. This ever-expanding mix
of interest and experience
contributes to creative, problemsolving
nature of specialty graphics.
With 598 exhibitors and over
21,000 in attendance, SGIA ’06
shattered all records. SGIA ’06 was
about more than equipment,
networking and consumables. It
was about ideas that spell big
profit. This was one occasion
where being overwhelmed was a
good thing as most of the
attendees found what they need
today and figured out what they
might need tomorrow. And their
thrill of digital flatbed capabilities
continued, with looking and finding
technologies to cultivate new and
existing markets.
