Captioning all around Manchester City

Manchester International Festival (MIF) is an artist-led festival presenting new works from the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. This year, the organisers wanted to commission something that encouraged the people of Manchester to reconnect with their city—an opportunity to stop and take a moment to experience the city in a new dimension through captivating public artwork. Berlin-based artist Christine Sun Kim created Captioning a City—a series of statements to help trigger memories, emotions and sensations. The captions were installed on streets and buildings in vast proportions. The captions were made of PVC-free, fully recyclable material supplied by Innotech Digital and printed and installed by Liberty Signs at 23 locations.
